X Marks The Spot
If you encountered the following three words in a text, how would you pronounce them?
xsiru
xsoka
xsuno

What about the following?
xiru
xoka
xuno

I would either pronounce x as the 'ch' in German "Bach" or 'sh' in shampoo (like in Portuguese).

"xs" I'd pronounce like "ks" (xsiru - ksiru)
"x" I'd pronounce like "z" (xiru - ziru)

I would think that xs is a digraph of some kind because there are so few sounds that would be easy to pronounce before [s] in that position.

x = [dz]
xs = [dZ]

Use the concept of Hanyu Pinyin

For the words xiru, xoka and xuno, I would regard "x" as the consonant "x" in Hanyu Pinyin (Mandarin). Hanyu Pinyin "x" = English "s". For the words xsiru, xsoka and xsuno, I would pronounce them as ex-see-roo, ex-so-ka, ex-soo-no

I've seen /x/ used for [sh], [ks], [kh], [z] and [!] (click). The second series could intend any of these. Without any context, I'd probably use [kh], since the click is too rare, and all the others are easier to represent in the latin (ks, z) or modified latin script (sh).
As for the first series, [ks] and [z] are implausible phonetically, if the transcription is phonetic; i'd stick to [kh], or possibly [!] (it has just the right sound for it).

For the last ones the x would be š, ch, ž, kh, or ts like in cats. The other ones I have no idea ! ;)
